This is my story.
I learned to walk near a sea that’s 5000 miles away — in Hamburg, a German port town known as the “Gate to the World”. It’s a creed that changed the course of my life. When I was 23, I moved halfway across the globe to do what many have done before me: Seek my life’s true fortunes in the American West.
It was there where I first read the poet Gary Snyder’s maxim: Nature is not a place to visit. It is home. When I arrived in the wide and wild open spaces of the West, I found my home. During those first weeks and months, it was my camera that helped me make sense of my new surroundings — it was the tool that translated the foreign into the familiar. Along the way, I learned to appreciate the landscape as a silent retreat that rewarded talking less. On those Western trails, the quiet introvert in me finally experienced the comfort that not knowing what to say was no longer a flaw but an expression of affiliation and admiration. I felt calm, understood, relieved, sheltered — the complete opposite of how I experience much of the deafening noise of what has become our everyday life.
— I am proud to have been named 2022/23 U.S. West Coast Nature Photographer of the Year by Corporate Live Wire —

Out there, I felt A Sense of Home. It’s what kindled a lifelong pursuit: A passion to photograph the natural beauty of the West, but to do so in a way that my images allow you to feel at home, at peace, too. Like a meditation, each of my artworks aims to create a moment of contemplative calm. Each image is a vision of a quiet place inside our own minds, a retreat back to the innately familiar wonders of the natural world, a sanctuary for stressed souls — meant to redirect your scattered focus to a singular point of natural beauty, seeking to rebalance that which you must do with that which you dream of.
To bring that vision to life, in each of my photographs, I seek to marry three distinct ingredients: a calming balance of the elements included in the frame, a sense of timelessness, and a feeling of familiarity rooted in connection to a place that’s special to you, too. Together, these three parts create a powerful, deeply-felt connection to the natural beauty of the American West. Only when all three come together do I know my search has culminated in something magical. That’s the fine art part of photography, if you ask me: adding intention to every step of the perennial quest to experience a meaningful moment.

As you consider my artwork for your home, office or business, it is my hope that it will help you re-connect with the wild parts of your own soul, the parts that are so often drowned out by the tumultuous noise of our busy daily lives, and allow you to return to a place of contemplative calm. Because there, in that precious moment, however brief it may be, lives our true self. There awaits our space to dream. Go there.
