THE STORY

Of all my time spent at altitude over the years, this moment was maybe THE high note so far. On the whim of passion and a favorable forecast, I had come here, in hopes that I would walk into the scene of my dreams. And indeed I did. Earlier in the day, Banff had woken up to the first snow of the season, so I grabbed my gear and headed up the mountain — chasing the vision of golden larches growing up snow-covered mountain sides. What I found at the end of the tedious trail wasn’t just the reward for true effort (that comes with the territory). No, what waited for me here was the kind of awe that sustains a soul long past a single moment — and an image to match it.

HOW TO USE IT

Lars Gesing is a member of One Percent for the Planet.

ART FOR CHANGE-MAKERS.

I am a proud member of 1% for the Planet and its mission of protecting our only home. As part of my CONSERVATION PLEDGE, I have committed to donating 1% of every sale to my Purpose Partners — organizations who fight to protect the land shown in your artwork. That means over its life in my gallery, this piece will generate roughly $2000 supporting public lands conservation. That's art with an impact.
