THE STORY OF "PARADISE COVE"
Many of my most cherished possessions in life are memories. It is an adage as old as time to live a life of collecting memories and moments rather than things. The ability to do so of course has many qualifiers. Yet, no matter the circumstances, it has always been true that what sparks the deepest conversations, the most emotional responses are shared experiences. Those experiences are what binds us together in common.
As an artist, it is one of my great joys and privileges to capture imagery that evokes such reactions. A photograph of a sunset at a California beach all of a sudden becomes so much more than that. It becomes a vehicle for the feeling we all know, single beads of blonde sunlight warmly touching our skin, our golden eyes glazing.
I am chasing these moment for my own sustenance, no doubt, as they make me feel most alive. But I also chase them for the conversations my images spark once a fleeting moment has been eternalized on a camera sensor, when they become an expression of the shared appreciation for a quiet evening sitting by the salty sea, sand under our feet, and a sense of magical elation flooding our entire being, pushing out the worries and the stress. Our allegiance to beauty is shared, it’s what makes us feel human and connected to one another. It is a story we can all tell.
