THE STORY OF "LEGACY"
The ubiquitous need for immediate answers for once takes a backseat, unable to transcend the cajoling call of strangeness and wonder. A monolith whose legacy is shaped by unrelenting, sand-bearing winds is the shrine of many an untold story.
As it stands out from the lifeless soil, weathered, bold and brave against the towering sky, this obelisk is obliquely oblivious to its nonconforming presence in these barren hinterlands, miming fragile permanence in a sea of millennial motion.
This oddly-shaped pinnacle of what the scribe Craig Childs once termed “the Southwest’s undulating topography” is a totemic reminder that this is, as he said, after all, “a land so barren any story makes sense.”
