THE STORY OF "DREAM STATE"
When I first showed this image to a good friend of mine, his immediate reaction was, “That doesn’t even look real.” And I couldn’t help but agree. This piece is real, of course, yet, I keep getting lost in its depth, its ethereal beauty, it’s dreamlike state. This friend of mine is someone I first met when the open road brought us together — in fact, it was this exact road that you can see in the image, if you look closely: The Million Dollar Highway.
I had just finished high school in Germany, he had just secured his law degree in the UK. Both of us had dreamed of exploring the great American landscapes. And so, both of us booked a seat on a 13-passenger-van that would take us all the way from New York to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between, including Colorado, in four weeks. The shared experience formed an inseparable bond. Once again, the open road had turned complete strangers into lifelong friends.
It so happened that journey was also the moment I fell in love so deeply, so profoundly, with the American West that it was only a matter of time until life would lead me to creating a home for myself here — even though I may not have realized it in that very moment. But who does, anyway?
And so, “DREAM STATE” is an ode not just to the most magnificent of seasons in Colorado, but to friendship, to dreaming big, to aiming high — and to looking for the road that leads us where we want to go in life.
